Late 1950s silvertone round domed ball center with flower pattern with balls around the edges in between the petals clip back earrings. Marked "©NAPIER PAT. PEND" on the back of the earrings. Measure: 7/8 inches across. Condition: Good; some tarnish normal for their age, wear/discoloration to interior of clip backs. Similar earrings are shown on pg. 281 of Melinda L. Lewis & Henry Swen's book, "The Napier Co.: Defining 20th Century American Costume Jewelry."
Vintage Napier jewelry was made in Meridan, Connecticut and is very high quality and desirable. In the 1950s, jewelry by Napier was worn by celebrities including Marilyn Monroe, Doris Day, Mamie Eisenhower and Miss America. A necklace sold by Napier in the 1980s or 1990s could cost $100 or more. The plant in Meridan was closed in 2000 and the company sold in 2002, so while the company name still exists, the jewelry is now mass produced.
